So, three women walk into a public pool to go swimming: a Muslim, a back-to-basics fundamentalist Christian and an Orthodox Jew . . . what are they wearing?

Ten or fifteen years ago, they probably wouldn’t have been at the public pool. Thanks to some innovative designers and outlets that have sprung up on the internet and in cities, today, the women who do not want to show off long legs, toned biceps and washboard abs can be covered and enjoy a cool dip in the pool, at a waterpark, at a beach or any place with some great choices in swimwear.

Many of The Anchorage Family Examiner articles on modest clothing cover (no pun intended) clothing for women who simply don’t want to go to the extremes that our culture has been offering. That is all right for them; they don’t have a problem showing a little skin by present day standards. The swimsuits in today’s articles are for women who want to show even less, due to religious reasons or even health reasons where the suns’ rays may trigger a genetic disposition for melanomas or blotchy skin when their skin darkens. Many women simply prefer to dress modestly and it's part of their family's religious values. Does this mean that they dress like frumps? Au contraire! Yael Weil explains, "The goal of a woman covering her hair, or adhering to standards of modesty in dress, is not for her to make herself ugly; rather, the goal is for her to portray herself in a way that is not provocative."

Splashgear’s founder started out ten years ago in a SCUBA class and loved going under water. As time passed, she became more observant with her faith and started experimenting with fabrics because she no longer wanted to wear the tight gear. A little while later, Splashgear was born in a fabric that dries fast and covers the body without binding it. They sell tops, bottoms and hairs covers separately and they have some items on sale. They offer swimwear in misses and women’s sizes.

Crystal of Modest swimwear Solutions says,

“The Bible doesn't give exact guidelines as to what type of garment is modest and what is not, so we need to use common sense and ask the Lord for discretion. Would this outfit stimulate a man in a way that we wouldn't wish? A man should also use discretion in how he treats a woman so that he doesn't produce feelings in her which may not be right. Because modesty is a personal choice, and something that we each should prayerfully consider, our purpose at Modest Swimwear Solutions is not to make some kind of "rule" about what style of swimsuit is modest. I only wish to make another option available for ladies who appreciate modesty or are looking for sun protection.”

Modest swimwear Solutions offers swimwuits in women's, plus sizes and children's sizes, as well as swimsuit patterns and custom made suits. There is a sale going on at this great store, so stop in and see what they have to offer!

Regine Omid Tessone, a freelance designer, created Aqua Modesta because she loved swimming. As she became more observant in her Jewish faith, she started researching fabrics and came up with this four-piece swimsuit and a cover-up. She says that her product has six great attributes: 1. It is made of a modest cut. 2. It is light and comfortable. 3. It dries very quickly. 4. It is opaque-- not see-through, even in it’s lighter colors. 5. It is manufactured in the USA. 6. It is fashionable.

Swimsuits such as these will not get a woman whistles, but they will allow her to be covered up if she is inclined and to be able to enjoy the water if her faith does not allow her to bear a lot of her assets, or if she simply wants to show less for any reason.
